SALLY-ANNE EDWARD

Sally’s dad, John Edward, taught her to play the trombone. She grew up playing in Leeds School’s ensembles and then on to study trombone, piano and voice at the University of Huddersfield, graduating with a BMus(perf) in 1992.

Now based in Huddersfield, Sally’s early career centred on playing and training with distinguished, heritage brass bands such as Sellers International Band and The Hammonds Saltaire Band, She also received tutoring from world-renowned solo trombonist, composer and conductor, Christian Lindberg as well as Chris Houlding ,  Ian Bousefield and more recently Dennis Rollins.

She has toured across the UK with funk band Huggy, described by Steve Lamacq as “…one original massive supercharged disco ball.”

Sally also featured on Embrace's 1998 critically acclaimed first album The Good Will Out.

For a number of years, Sally toured with live dance act Kava Kava, travelling across Europe, notching up performances at Glastonbury Festival, Zgorzelec Festival and Trutnov Festival. The band’s music has been featured in a number of films and TV shows.

Following a number of years playing with heavy funk and soul band the Nu Popes, Sally now performs regularly in wild klezmer band, Klonk. Klonk regularly perform at UK festivals such as Boomtown, Beatherder, Solfest, Maui Maui, Bearded Theory & many more.

Sally Edward is a trombone player for brass ravers Mr. Wilson’s Second Liners and is also Mr. Wilson’s project producer.

She was the project manager for Kirklees Year of Music 2023 and is delighted to be giving her time and expertise to BRAZEN.
